Chestnuts are high in protein, naturally sweet and gluten-free. This flour is just perfect for baking. Delicious in bread, it produces a dense crumb that slices thinly for great Melba toast – try it with melted cheese baked in its box.
It also gives a rich, dark brown colour, which looks dramatic if you flour the tops of your loaves well, giving a lovely contrast to a white loaf.
Chestnut flour also works well as a great alternative in pancakes.
